Thanks for your input! I think it depends on your aspirations as a programmer, and what domains exactly you want to work in.

Python is good for making little projects work, and that can give you a motivating dopamine hit to learn more about programming. In this sense it can be a good bridge between what I call “scripting around,” and hardcore programming.
